The Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic (MoE SR) is responsible for coordinating the common trade policy of the European Union (EU), coordinating the strategy of external economic relations and meeting of obligations of the Slovak Republic arising from the membership in WTO and in other international organisations of economic nature (OECD, UNCTAD) in line with the common trade policy of the EU. MoE SR is also responsible for applying tariff and non-tariff measures of trade policy and protection of domestic manufacturers in line with WTO principles and in line with the common trade policy of EU, as well as for developing and realising the support of export in the field of system as well as material tools. It is further responsible for drafting of agreements concerning international economic cooperation and prepares meetings of intergovernmental committees, mixed committees, expert groups and participates at their meetings. The Ministry of Economy oversees meeting of tasks in the field of protecting economic interests of consumers and realising consumer policy in the Slovak Republic. Part of the consumer protection department is the European Consumer Centre in the Slovak Republic that as a member of the network of European Consumer Centres (ECC-Net) helps consumers free of charge to settle disputes with businessmen from other EU countries, Norway and Iceland.
