POWER INDUSTRY

The power industry as a field can significantly contribute to sustainable economic development respecting effective use of energy and environmental protection. The basic prerequisite for further economic development is the sustainable power supply based on a safe and reliable power delivery at optimal costs. The role of state administration in power industry is to create a stable framework for a safe functioning of the energy market motivating effective investments in the power industry.

The framework document for the sector of power industry is the Energy Policy of the Slovak Republic strategic aim of which shall be to achieve competitive low-carbon power industry, ensuring a safe, reliable and effective delivery of all forms of power at acceptable costs while considering protection of consumers and sustainable development.

From the aspect of energy security, we are in the category of vulnerable countries, thus supporting such energy architecture that will create conditions for increased energy sufficiency, pro-export ability in electricity, transparency, optimal power mix with low-carbon technologies and increased energy efficiency.

Achieving low-carbon power industry shall be the crucial contribution to solving the climatic change problem. In conditions of the Slovak Republic, nuclear energy is an important part of the low-carbon growth. Binding aims for 2020 and recently approved aims for the year 2030 in the area of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency are a challenge and a potential solution to increased sufficiency. Apart from reducing green-house emissions, this transition to low-carbon power industry shall lead to decreased dependence on imports of fossil fuels.
