Slovak Republic is developing hydrogen ecosystem, with the Ministry of Economy preparing scenarios and forecasts until 2030
On Wednesday, November 5, 2025, the Government of the Slovak Republic approved a proposal for the Development of a Hydrogen Ecosystem in Slovakia, together with medium- and long-term production scenarios up to 2050, submitted by the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic (MoE SR). This is one of the verification documents for the seventh payment from the Slovakia’s recovery and resilience plan under the European REPowerEU, which aims to support the green transition and the development of renewable energy sources.
„Hydrogen represents one of the options for decarbonization and can contribute to meeting the goals to which Slovakia has committed itself in terms of carbon neutrality by 2050. Our goal today is to create a stable framework that will enable its realistic use in our industry, energy sector and transport. We are working to make Slovakia one of the countries that can produce renewable and low-carbon hydrogen and fulfil its RED III commitments, but on the other hand, we also want to point out the need to make these goals realistic – in some cases, achieving the goals will only be possible at high costs and investments,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of the Slovak Republic, Denisa Saková.
Based on this document, MoE SR will prepare new Action Plan for the Development of a Hydrogen Ecosystem in Slovakia for the years 2027 - 2030. This plan will include specific support tools and measures that will contribute to the real development of hydrogen technologies in Slovakia and to the gradual reduction of emissions in industry and transport. In 2026, the National Hydrogen Strategy until 2050 will also be updated.
This document was prepared at the request of the European Commision as a basis for determining the possible direction of the hydrogen ecosystem in the Slovak Republic. It follows up on the Balance of Hydrogen Production, Consumption, Import and Export in Slovakia, which was prepared by MoE SR as a verification document for the fifth payment of the Slovakia’s recovery and resilience plan.
