Signing of the Memorandum on Economic Cooperation between Slovakia and North Macedonia
On October 14-15, 2025, the President of the Slovak Republic, Peter Pellegrini, paid an official visit to North Macedonia. The delegation included State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic Vladimír Šimoňák, whose main agenda item was the signing of a Memorandum on Economic Cooperation between the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic (MoE SR) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of the Republic of North Macedonia.
Based on the signed document, a Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation between the two countries is expected to be established, which will focus on supporting the development of contacts between business communities and deepening cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, energy, agriculture, and tourism. The first meeting of the Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation in Skopje, together with business mission, is expected to take place in the first half of 2026.
During his visit, State Secretary, Vladimír Šimoňák, also met with State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy and Labour of the Republic of North Macedonia, Jumni Ademi, and State Secretary of Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources of Republic of North Macedonia, Goran Jovanovski. During the meetings, they discussed possibilities for cooperation in the fields of renewable energy sources and the automotive industry, as well as the sharing Slovakia’s experience from the European Union accession process.
